Biography

Laura Russell received her Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University. While she was there, she developed the philosophy that exposing elementary aged children to all types of music and musical activities will help them become better all-around students. Her music class includes listening, playing instruments from all cultures, moving, and her favorite…singing!

Mrs. Russell has always loved music and was singing before she was even talking. When she was attending middle school at Palmer Catholic Academy, her music teacher asked her if she would like to cantor at the weekly student mass and she has never stopped. She continues to cantor this day at her current parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel. She was a very active member of her high school choir before being accepted into the Florida State University Voice Performance Program. After two years, she realized that her heart was in the classroom, not on stage, and switched from a performance degree to education.

After teaching for a few years in a public school, Mrs. Russell’s dad asked her to open Candlelight South Restaurant with him in Saint Augustine, which she still operates. She loves running the restaurant but is delighted to be back in the classroom this year!
Mrs. Russell is the proud mom of Madilyn, who is an amazing dancer, and Kellan, who loves karate and is determined to be an astronaut!
