Biography

JoAnn Kirby Nance holds an AA in Vocal Music from Florida School of the Arts (1978), a BA in Drama from Flagler College (1981), and attended Teacher-Artist training at Lincoln Center, NYC. After a professional career in theatre, radio, television, and public relations, she began teaching in SJCSD in 1997. She helped establish the St Johns County Center for the Arts at Murray Middle School, sponsored Jr. Thespian Troupe 88467, and co-chaired District 1 of Florida Jr. Thespians. Her honors include Florida Thespian Master Teacher of the Year 2023, ROWITA Award 2016, and Murray Middle School Teacher of the Year 2004/2005.

JoAnn is an active member of NE Florida’s performing arts community, with involvement in Limelight Theatre, the 48 HR Film Project, and St. Anastasia’s “Let There Be Music” concert series directing productions like AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS and the LIVING STATIONS of the CROSS.

Married to author Andrew Nance, they have two grown sons and their German Sheppard, Katie. When and where is JoAnn happiest? When: Sunrise “beach walk and worship time”.  Where: Anywhere she can sing praise and liturgical music.
